Online Addiction Counselling
Is Online Addiction Counselling Right for You?
Online addiction counselling may be appropriate if you are medically stable and do not need continuous supervision or a more structured treatment setting. It can provide easy access to ongoing alcohol and drug treatment while allowing you to remain at home and continue with work, family, and other responsibilities.
Virtual addiction counselling may not be enough if stopping or reducing your substance use could cause severe withdrawal that is not being medically managed. It may also be unsuitable when there are current concerns about overdose, other medical complications, or an immediate psychiatric concern.
If withdrawal is being managed by a doctor or addiction physician in an outpatient setting, virtual addiction counselling may still be appropriate as part of your treatment.
A more structured level of care, including may also be appropriate when your living environment makes recovery difficult or you need more support and supervision than online addiction counselling can provide.
The initial consultation includes an intake screening to help determine whether virtual addiction treatment is an appropriate level of care. If it is not, outpatient addiction rehab or inpatient residential treatment may be recommended based on the support and supervision you require.

What to Expect from Online Addiction Counselling
Online addiction counselling begins with a careful assessment of your substance use, current difficulties, previous treatment, triggers, relationships, and work. The assessment also considers symptoms of anxiety or depression, emotional distress, and any relevant trauma concerns that may be affecting your recovery. This gives you and your counsellor a clearer understanding of what is happening and where support should be focused.
From there, you will work together to develop a treatment plan based on your goals and priorities. You and your addiction counsellor will determine which therapeutic approaches may be useful, including cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
Online Addiction Counselling Consultation
A confidential consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss your substance use, ask questions about virtual addiction counselling, and decide whether the service matches your goals and circumstances. The consultation includes an intake screening to help determine whether online addiction counselling is appropriate for you. If it is, our intake staff can explain the process and arrange your first appointment with an addiction counsellor.
